In this presentation you will learn that BMW i is more than just a megacity vehicle; rather it stands for visionary vehicles and mobility services, inspiring design and a new understanding of premium that is strongly defined by sustainability. With BMW i the BMW Group is adopting an all-embracing approach, redefining the understanding of personal mobility with purpose-built vehicle concepts, a focus on sustainability throughout the value chain and a range of complementary mobility services.
SPEAKER : VOLKER RICHTER
Volker Richter is Vice President within the R&D Centre of the BMW Group; he is responsible for managing the area Total Vehicle Architecture and Integration. In this function he also directed a major reengineering project to design a new architectural development process. Before that he was in different management functions within R&D and production: he was responsible for advanced engineering product concepts, for product engineering of interior components and during his 4 years assignment in the US-plant Spartanburg responsible for the total vehicle quality during the launch of the Z3 and X5. Mr. Richter has a mechanical engineering degree from the Technical University in Aachen, Germany, and was a Research Student in the early 90s at the Harvard Business School in Boston, USA, where he started researching about product-development strategies, organizational structures and technology management. Before he joined BMW 20 years ago his automotive career started in Adelaide, Australia, during an internship at a company producing aluminium wheels.
